Why do superheroes need sidekicks

Thor is a God. Zatanna is an extremely powerful spell caster who has, at one time or another, cast spells that heal wounds, control the Earthly elements, and manipulate the minds of those around her. The Justice League Dark, for reference, is a team of powerful magic users that deal with the more supernatural problems of the DC Universe.

As a member of two prominent teams, even if Zatanna wanted a sidekick, she would have the time of day for one. Supergirl is one of the superheroes without sidekicks for the same reason as a few others on this list. Supergirl immediately announced herself as a force to be reckoned with after first appearing inside the pages of Action Comics back in If the last name El sounds familiar, like her famous cousin Superman, she hails from the planet Krypton. As a Kryptonian, she receives her power from Earth,s yellow sun.

She possesses superhuman strength, speed, durability, stamina, hearing, and agility. She also has infrared, telescopic, x-ray, heat, microscopic, and electromagnetic vision. In addition, she is nearly invulnerable, can fly, has a healing factor, and has both freeze and wind breath.

Supergirl is the female equivalent to Superman. By all logic, he probably should. His reason for this is threefold. Remember, Nightwing is a former circus acrobat. As an acrobat, he can do things that very few people could even dream up, let alone keep up with. Daredevil came to be after Matt Murdock was inadvertently struck by a truck carrying a chemical compound.

As a result, he was left blind and his remaining senses heightened. Where does this leave us presently? On the comic book side of things, sidekicks are almost totally gone from the Big Two. Bucky is an integral piece of the larger puzzle, James Rhodes became his own machine in Iron Man 3 , and the Howling Commandos continued to operate without Captain America.

What about DC Entertainment though? As outlined above, many of their sidekick characters are already appearing on television. Should these prove to be true, what role do they have in the movie? Will the characters be wholly defined by being inferior to Batman or will they function as an individual that adds a layer to Batman?

Kid Flash first appeared inside the pages of The Flash back in December of Kid Flash possesses many superpowers. Most of these revolve around the Speed Force.

As such, he has super speed, can read and process material as quick;y as he runs, can phase through objects, can time travel, can dimensionally travel, has heightened senses, can give and take speed away, possesses electrokinesis, is able to manipulate time, and become one with the Speed Force. Kid Flash is actually faster than his mentor, Barry Allen. Speedy first appeared in More Fun Comics 73 back in November of Like Green Arrow, Roy Harper is a master archer and is proficient in hand to hand combat.

Like Green Arrow, he is a member of one of the most prominent superhero groups in DC. And like Green Arrow he was involved in one of the most controversial and appreciated stories in comic history. Roy Harper is what all sidekicks should aspire to be. He has overcome adversity in ways that most can only dream, all-the-while rising up to become one of the most important characters that DC has ever created. In fact, aside from fighting the enemies of the United States, the two were also integral members of the Defenders.

Captain America and Bucky are as close of friends as any in this list. As the Winter Soldier, Bucky was a Russian Operative tasked with some of the most high profile assassinations in history.

Luckily for Bucky, his friend never gave up hope and over time was able to reform his long lost sidekick. After the tragic murder of both his parents, Bruce Wayne takes in the now orphaned Dick Grayson and raises him as his own.

More than that, Bruce begins to train Dick as his sidekick, Robin. As Robin, Dick Grayson became the prototype for what sidekicks should be. Under Batman, he learned, studied, applied, and did it all again until he was everything Bruce Wayne had hoped for and more. The best thing about Dick Grayson is that he took what he learned as Robin and paid it forward to every subsequent Robin.

As a result of this and no matter which character is the current Robin, Robin is to Batman what tomato sauce is to pizza…mandatory. The Top 10 Superhero Sidekicks. What do you think? Who would make your superhero sidekicks list?
