I've reused them successfully before, but that is on 4cyl cars that are much simpler to remove the head. If you dare to re-use the gasket, clean the entire gasket and then give it a ton of light coats of copper spray. The outer layers do have a "crush section" that deforms permanently once the gasket is initially torqued. Just keep in mind how much of a PITA it is to take the car back apart, remove the head, turbo, cooling system etc if the reused HG leaks!

Engine pulled apart with no headgasket issues. ARP Studs that clamp to 60 ft-lbs instead of the factory 47 ft-lbs. Reuse or don't reuse. Head gasket is designed to be crushed and seal. It's already been crushed, so the sealing part is compromised If this is a challenge car, reuse it.
Will probably work I'd just buy a new one. And for some reason I keep looking at that 60 ft-lbs and it seems low? I haven't built a D for like yrs I would never re-use a head gasket, but I guess it depends where you are on your own personal Time vs.
Money continuum. I've gotten away with reusing head gaskets many times over the years. Never a recommended practice, and really not worth the few dollars it saves me. But none the less, I've gotten away with it. We promise not to use your email address for anything but exclusive updates from the Power Automedia Network. About Us Sponsors Advertising.
